Down will come cradle........

I came out of the front door yesterday morning and noticed this nest in the front yard just feet away from the hack berry tree.

As I got closer, I saw a baby bird laying deep in the grass only inches away. He did not survive the fall. I could also hear mama bird chirping and saw her hopping all over near the suburban. Her enemy was lying in the shade underneath.....Cecil the Diesel...the bird catching cat. She was scared to death that he was going to find her downed nest.

I felt so bad for her. I decided to go put her baby in the nest and bury it so she would not have to experience anything worse. I gently put the poor baby in the nest and when I lifted it up.....to my surprise...there was a live baby bird under the nest!

Grandpa came over and I took out the dead baby and Grandpa scooped up the live baby and gently put the nest up in a small branch in the tree...one that the cat would be too heavy for.

I buried the dead baby and will watch to see if mama bird figured out what we did. I later worried that the wind would blow the nest from it's new location, so I took string and tied it to the branch to secure it a little better.

We will pray for a happy ending for one of God's little birds.

Keep us posted on the events. Caroline is interested to see the nest herself when we get to your place Friday.

The mom bird looked like she was crying for her baby.
