Church was good today. In Sunday School we are in Daniel 9 (God's future for Israel....70 weeks) I know I have learned that Israel will always be God's chosen people. He promises them in 1 Samuel 12:22 , "For the Lord will not abandon HIs people on account of His great name, because the Lord has been please to make you a people for Himself. " They will always be His people...not for them, but for HIM! The following verse also tells us it is a sin against the Lord to cease to pray. There have been times that I have wanted to cease to pray for certain things. This verse reminds me that it is not what God would want from me, and the next verse gives a good reason why...."Only fear the Lord and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you." There is no substitute for obedience to God.
In Sunday morning church we are studying the spiritual gifts in 1 corinthians 14. This is what we were studying when we first visited our church over 30 years ago! I still remember how amazed I was at all those people actually bringing their bibles to church with them and the sound of a thousand pages turning at the same time as we looked at the scripture together....
and in evening church we continue to look at the life of David in 1 Samuel ending this evening with the 23rd chapter. It was interesting how many of the Psalms he wrote durning this time of his life when Saul was pursuing him to kill him. I'm always amazed how many times we can read these verses and always see something we never saw before!!
