Planting Continues....

May's 80. The beans look velvety (the light green peeking at the top of the hill). The corn is thick and beautiful here too....

This is my little garden. Only tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans and onions this year....

This is the sweet corn along the east fence. It looks so much different than field corn.

This is the Home 80. Isn't this corn beautiful?? Thank you Lord!

Steve is running this machine over the rows to "rough them up" a bit so they will dry out better so he can finish planting soybeans. He plugged up with mud so many times yesterday and has to get out and scrape out all the mud so the wheels turn and the seed falls.

Since the first of May, we have had 12.25 inches of rain. The wind blew 50 mph all day yesterday and through the night, but the line of rain dissapated when it reached our county. Steve headed back out to keep planting soybeans. He had to stop several times the past two days to dig the mud out of the wheels, so he could keep planting. It is too muddy, but at this point, we just need to get it in. There is rain predicted for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, but we hope to be done planting by then and the corn and beans that are up will love a rain now anyway.

I know it seems like farmers are always complaining. Grain prices too low, input prices too high. Actually, coffee-shop talk of too high of grain prices might get too high....I know that sounds crazy, but we all have to go to the grocery store too, and know the fuel prices are already killing us and we consume everything everyone else does, and know if the grain markets go crazy over the corn/ethanol push, we will pay for it on the otherside just like everyone else.

We pray for rain...we pray it will stop raining. We beg God to not let the hail fall on our beautiful fields that Steve has worked so hard to care for. We are one of the very few occupations that totally depend on the acts of God. All we can do is plant the seed, and He is only One who can carry it through to a harvest. Last year, God chose to send 70-80 mile an hour wind and it flattened some of the most beautiful corn we ever raised. He still provided a crop from that downed corn. It was a pickle to try to harvest, but harvest we did...and He provided for us for another year...as He will do this year. The corn this year, looks even better than last year, and the beans are coming up in their cute little rows. The sun is shining...and the birds are singing..and the wind is still.....finally.... It is another gorgeous spring day in Nebraska.

Standouts from the prayer list this am:

Our children...their children...

We have been praying for friends who had a baby last month with Down Syndrome and little Anna is going to have heart surgery when she gains the required weight. She is such a cutie and has been heavy on my heart for these weeks.

Another sweet friend, Amy, who deals with the complications of Lupus...I think of her most every day....

Close friends...Brad and Jackie...that Brad would find relief from pain in his back from his medical condition. Praying he will be able to work and get more jobs completed now that we have had several days without rain.

Praying for Steve: (he had another one of his "spells" day before yesterday) praying for health, time management and that we could get done planting.

Praying for the various youth camps at church coming up. Pray for time with our grandbabies this weekend!! I can't wait! =)........

Praying for Steve J.'s leg to be ready for his surgery next week, and that it goes without a hitch and heals properly to be ready for the last surgery a few weeks to follow.

Always praying for salvation of family and friends who do not know Christ as their savior.

Never a lack of things to pray for ......

"Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving.."

That "attitude of thanksgiving" is so key, isn't it?!

Wilson's counting down the hours to come and visit! See you tomorrow!
