Fall, Food (cookies) and Fire!

I shot this photo when I ran guys around to move equipment from field to field. This doesn't do it justice at all. The sun was shining and these colors were so brilliant! This is just off the highway west of the extension office over by SJ's place. ...

Andy, Anna and the kiddos came out Friday evening through this morning. Andy drove the grain cart, helping the guys with harvest and Anna and I cooked and played and they got rides in the combine with grandpa. =)

The weather was beautiful this weekend. The temps in the day were in the 70's.

I mixed up a double batch of sugar cookie dough and we made some fall cookies. Yum.....we LOVE cookie dough! =)

Cami is a VERY GOOD cookie roller, cutter and baker!

We got them decorated and had to have them for a snack!

When we came home from church, I looked across the mile and saw a huge cloud of black smoke. The neighbor decided to burn a pile of trees he had cut on the corner of his place.

We got home and ate lunch and the phone rang. It was the neighbors. They wondered if Steve was there...she wanted to let him know that our corn field was on fire and the fire dept. was there. WE JUST FINISHED HARVESTING THAT FIELD AT DARK LAST NIGHT! Thank you Lord for protecting our crop!! There is still standing corn west of there, but the wind was blowing from the southwest and did not move that far west. There are harvested soybean fields both to the north of that field and across the highway to the east (if the fire would have jumped the highway.

The guys are in the pickup to the right in the photo. There is so much smoke you can barely see it. It looks like it is under control now. I have a feeling the neighbor won't be wanting to burn again for a while.........................................

Wow - those are some pictures, both of the trees and the fire. TYL for saving your field! Looks like you and Anna and the kids had a fun weekend. :-)
