September Salad and Dessert Evening...

We have had a great summer and I have been doing a terrible job keeping up with my blog. We enjoyed time with our Johnson kids in July. It was fun to get them and Andy's together and watch the kids all play. We traveled to KY to Scott's house on the lake and had fun with all the family there. I have been working two to three days a week since. We have some new people on board at work and it has been fun getting to know them. I can't believe how fast they have trained! Much faster than I did!!

Ladies Brunch Break...wish you all could come... =)

I have been working on a brunch poster off and on for about two weeks. It was just not coming together and I need to get it printed TODAY so we can get them in the displays tomorrow. I got up this morning and started from scratch again. ....ready to start printing unless someone finds a mistake! =) Wish you all could join us. About three dozen of us take a round table and decorate it with our own Christmas China. I'll have to post photos. It is always GORGEOUS! We sing carols and always have a great feature and inspiring message.
graphics: My all-time favorite Christmas kit by Janna Billman; background and border (no longer available ..is it Janna??). O Holy Night at Funky Playground. Stitched CandyCane alpha from We Are Storytellers. Font: CKQuickstitch.....use that all the time!!

Ladies Night Out...... =)
This should be a fun ladies night out. Phil will be dressed to his role and can that man sing!
I have never heard Jayne speak before and am looking forward to hearing her life story. We are all supposed to wear our "red, white and blue" to go with the patriotic theme. The graphics are from Shab.by Miss Jen.n

April Salad & Dessert Night
Calling my critique girls! You saved me last time, Kathy. Look it over good girls, before I send it out and start printing....

The front decorations will be an antique kitchen/ laundry, I believe, and the tables will be decorated with primative kitchen....tableclothes, bowls, utensils, tins, etc. Loretta will be sharing aprons she has made, and special ones that have been in her family and ones she has received as gifts over the years. I have some pretty special aprons myself, that my Daut has made me.....maybe I should wear one that night...ya think?? =) There is always so many dishes of beautiful salads and desserts set out on long tables. They are always decorated so cute, too!

February Brunch Break....

I have a few graphics projects that I need to finish this week. This is the poster for our Ladies February Brunch at church. I hate that I will not be able to be there that day, but I am sure going to get the cd. I would love to hear Judi speak and I know the gals that are going to be talking about the party planning and they will have some super tips! I wish they were going to tape it so I can see the examples!!
Kristin challenged me to list some of my favorite fonts as she did yesterday on her blog. As my sweet hubby and I had a hot date in the office doing books....isn't that always romantic?...I was waiting for him to finish filling out some forms, so I starting listing some. Daut, do you know what you ask?? I have about 45 just from what is installed, and I have two other folders of uninstalled ....probably a couple THOUSAND! I will try to list a few every once in a while and I think we should let you know at the bottom of our layouts, which fonts we used...if we think of it. What do you think of that idea, Daut?
The graphics from this poster are from mo jack son and Kathryn Balint and the fonts used are AL Uncle Charles and Happy Birthday. Speaking of fonts and hints...
Writing on real Cakes.....
I will give another hint. When I do cakes...I print out the Happy Birthday to ...whoever. I then lay the paper on my turned over mouse pad and use a push pin to poke holes close together following the writing...sort of like a dot-to-dot. I really prefer to use card stock weight paper as it is a bit stiffer, but do use text weight as well.
I then center that paper on the smoothed frosting where I want to write on my cake. I follow the writing, pushing lightly with my index finger, pushing the poked holes into the smoothed icing. I then have a "dotted line" to follow. Another trick along this line is to take two CLEAN pieces of panty hose and tie some powdered sugar in one and cocoa powder in the other and keep them in sandwich baggies. Lay that poked greeting on your smoothed frosting and lightly dust white or light frosting with the cocoa "puff" or on chocolate or dark frosting, use the powdered sugar "puff". The only problem I have had with this is stray cocoa on white frosting...so I tend to just push the pokes with my finger and hope I can see well enough to follow with the frosting tip. I also use a #4 tip because I like that size for the writing. I didn't think of these on my own....I came across the tips somewhere online. I have other cake hints..should dedicate an entry to that, I guess..... =)
Michael is meeting with a friend / neighbor this afternoon to talk about a possible job he might have for him a couple days a week, so if you think of it, appreciate prayers for him as he has always enjoyed the few "outside of the workshop" jobs he has been able to go to.
Well I have a schedule for myself this week as I have a lot to get done, so better finish up my other graphic project (nametags for the brunch) and try to stay on schedule!

Salad & Dessert Night.....

It was a great break to be able to get out last night and attend the Ladies Salad and Dessert Evening at church. The fellowship hall was transformed to Lake Will-Be-Gone, MN, to a homey front porch where "Prairie Hills Companion" radio show was broadcast. Carol had been working on this skit some time and her writing ability was shining last night!
Doesn't she have a great smile!
It is hard to believe this porch set is made of styrofoam!
There were three different areas of food like this all brought in by the ladies....yum!
Many small groups of hymns and jingles. This was the last with all groups toward the end of skit.
"Marilyn Wellor" was the "hostess" of the radio show.
Gale shared her beautiful testimony. She was not only humerous, but inspirational and shared her gift of writing and speaking.
